City Hall is closed after 5 pm. Members of the public who wish to join the meeting in person after this time are asked to use the intercom at either of the main entrances of the main City Hall building (Laurier Avenue West or Lisgar Street entrances) to request access.

At the outset of the meeting, Chair D’Amico provided some remarks, thanking Dr. Etches for her contributions to the City, and in particular to her contributions to the Community Safety and Well-Being Advisory committee.

No Declarations of Interest were filed.

Vice-Chair C. Kendall requested that there be more details in the minutes. Eric Pelot, committee coordinator, advised that this would be considered when drafting minutes in the future.

Sarah Taylor, Director, Community Safety, Well-Being, Policy & Analytics, Sarah Mullen, Program Manager, Social Development, Sawsan Al-Refaei, Manager, Strategic Projects, and Vinh Nguyen, Manager, Social Policy, Research & Analytics, presented an overview of the item and answered questions from the Committee.  A copy of the slide presentation is filed with the Office of the City Clerk.

Kiel Anderson, Manager, Governance, Elected Officials and Business Support Services, and Eric Pelot, Committee Coordinator (Office of the City Clerk) also answered questions from Committee.

Committee received the following submissions, and a copy of each is filed with the Office of the City Clerk:

  • Sandy Hill Community Liaison Committee letter received December 10

Robin Browne (613/819 Black Hub) spoke before the Committee on the item.

Committee discussion on this item included the following topics:

  • Public Member appointments
  • Considerations for youth programming 
  • How to overcome barriers to engaging youth, including raising awareness of wealth of youth-based programing
  • Coordination between ANCHOR and emergency and police responses, and capturing related data
  • Collecting demographic data such as age and race-based data
  • Collecting feedback from youth on the new youth portal
  • Diversion of emergency calls such as mental health emergencies

Committee discussion also included the following ACTION ITEMS:

  • The Committee requested that there be the opportunity to discuss the written submissions on this item at a future meeting.
  • Community and Social Services Department staff undertook to provide responses to the written submissions, and to share the responses with Committee.
  • The Committee requested information on the process for acknowledging and following up on submissions to Committee.
  • Committee expressed interest in receiving written submissions earlier to allow adequate time to review prior to the meeting. The Office of the City Clerk will review the wording around the written submission deadline to advise the public of this preference.
