No Declarations of Interest were filed.

Sean Moore, Director, Lansdowne Park Project, Planning, Development & Building Department and Marnie Peters, President of Accessibility Simplified provided a presentation and answered questions from the Committee. As well, Justin Kurosky, Manager, Design & Construction-Facilities of Infrastructure & Water Services Department was available to answer questions.

A copy of the slide presentation is filed with the Office of the City Clerk. 

There were three delegates from the public:

  • Kyle Humphrey spoke before the Committee and provided comments on the features in the Event Centre that will improve the experience for the disabled communities and help with increased employment opportunities.  He also spoke to how improvements at this event centre will help in planning future sites.
  • Kristine Houde, Old Ottawa East Community Association, spoke before the Committee and raised some concerns with some of the spaces presented.  She also referred to the lack of any direct partnership with groups representing disabilities. She also raised issues of transportation and the difficulty of disabled people getting to the Lansdowne.
  • Jerry Fiori, Ottawa Disability Coalition, spoke before the Committee and addressed costs and that the money for the centre should be directed to affordable and accessible housing.  He spoke to lack of transportation around the centre and that the project should not be happening because policies were not followed.

The Advisory Committee discussed and asked questions regarding the following topics:

  • Accessibility features around the new centre such as hardscaping to assist mobility
  • Auditory overstimulation and other issues that will be consulted on at a later date
  • The City’s communications on the changes to the Event Centre and how they will serve the various communities
  • Equitable access to the site needed

At the conclusion of discussions, the Committee received the update.

    That the Accessibility Advisory Committee receive the presentation and provide feedback as appropriate.

Megan Richards, Program Manager of the Accessibility Office provided a presentation and answered questions from the Committee. As well, Phil Edens, Senior Traffic Assessment Specialist, Traffic Services and Scott Caldwell, Manager, Parking Services both from the Public Works Department were available to answer questions.

One delegate, Kyle Humphrey spoke before the Committee and provided comments on how this will provide more space for those needing it and this will allow people to more easily shop and fraternize as they will be able to access more areas.

The Advisory Committee discussed and asked questions on the following:

  • The differences between parking spaces and designated parking
  • Where the designated spots will be
  • Differences in the size of spots

At the conclusion of discussions, the Committee received the update.
