Declarations of Office - Council Members

Councillors Carr, Dudas, Gower, King and Kitts read their Declarations of Office and were sworn in as new Board members.

Member Kavanagh was absent during the roll call.

No regrets were received. 

No declarations of pecuniary interest were filed.

Five communication items have been received (held on file with the Board of Health Secretary).

Vice-Chair DeGiovanni presided over the election of the Interim Chair.

Prior to calling for nominations, she explained that, in accordance with section 57 subsection 2 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, she would request nominations for the position of Interim Chair, to be confirmed at the Board’s first meeting in 2023. 

Following her nomination, Member Kitts accepted the nomination for the position of Interim Chair. 

Vice-Chair DeGiovanni called for any additional nominations three times before calling for a motion to close the nominations. 

Following her election as Interim Chair, Chair Kitts took over as presiding officer and chaired the balance of the meeting.

File ACS2022-OPH-MOH-0011 – City-wide

Dr. Etches began her verbal report by welcoming the newly appointed Council Members to the Board of Health. She then provided updates on the local situation as relates to COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses, work on childhood immunization, and the budget development process. She also talked about plans for the new year as relates to Board Members’ orientation and the strategic planning process. In closing, she talked about the holidays and things everyone can do to protect themselves and their loved ones from the most serious effects of respiratory illnesses and she wished everyone a happy, healthy holiday season. 

In the context of the Medical Officer of Health Verbal Report, the Board heard from one (1) public delegation - Mr. Greg Macdougall. Mr. Macdougall also provided a written submission, which was circulated to Board of Health Members in advance of the meeting and is held on file with the Board of Health Secretary. 

After hearing from the public delegation, Dr. Etches and staff responded to questions from Members of the Board of Health. 

The Board then voted to receive the Medical Officer of Health's Verbal Report. Discussions on this item lasted approximately 30 minutes.
