Vice Chair Durrell congratulated Chair
El-Chantiry for the award received from the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs &
Emigrants this past week.
The award was
in recognition for his involvement in politics in the City of Ottawa, as well
as for his ongoing help for Lebanese people in Ottawa and abroad.
On behalf of the Police Service, Chief
Bordeleau also congratulated Chair El-Chantiry.
Mr. Garner explained that Recovery Day
Ottawa is an annual community event organized by CAPSA
Ottawa
in the month of September. The purpose is to help reduce the
stigma surrounding addiction and raise awareness about addiction recovery in
our community. During the month of September, Canadians gather to build
awareness, challenge societal stigma, and celebrate the role that recovery
plays in improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

Chair El-Chantiry acknowledged Mr. Snoddy’s hard work
within our community and congratulated him for recently receiving the ABLE Super
Supporter Award for 2015.
Prescription Drug Drop Off
Chair El-Chantiry asked if OPS staff have been working
with the City’s Wastewater Services Branch regarding this issue, as they are
very concerned about drugs being disposed of by flushing them down toilets.
Chief Bordeleau was unaware of any work being done with the City at this time.
Part of the campaign message is to enlighten the community about the proper
disposal method for prescription drugs. He indicated staff would approach the
City to see what else could be done in partnership to reinforce this message.
The Chair thought this approach would be very worthwhile.

BYWARD MARKET
STREET AMBASSADOR PROGRAM – 2014 ANNUAL REPORT AND 2015 FUNDING
Chief’s report
That
the Ottawa Police Services Board continue to endorse the Street Ambassador
program and approve the release of a $10,000.00 contribution to the ByWard
Market Business Improvement Area for operation of the program in 2015.

Executive Director’s report
That
the Ottawa Police
Services Board approve:
1.
The
attendance of Chair El-Chantiry, Member Smallwood and Executive Director Fedec
at the 2015 Canadian Association of Police Governance Conference being held in
Markham, Ontario from 26 – 29 August 2015.
2.
Funding
in the amount of $5,000 to cover the cost of a breakfast to launch the 2016 Conference
hosted by the Ottawa Police Services Board.

TO AMEND THE FALSE ALARM REDUCTION BY-LAW OF THE OTTAWA POLICE SERVICES BOARD
By-law No. 1 of 2015
That the Ottawa Police
Services Board approve Ottawa Police Services Board By-law No. 1 of 2015, being
a by-law to amend Section
12 of By-law No. 1 of 2010 entitled “A by-law of the City of Ottawa Police
Services Board establishing a system for the registration of security alarm
systems and reduction of false alarms” by striking out the expression “One Hundred and Thirty-Five
Dollars ($135.00)” where it occurs therein and substituting the expression “One
Hundred and Forty Dollars ($140.00)” therefor.
