2.
MEASURES TO CURB GUN VIOLENCE

 

Motion by Member L.A. Smallwood

 

WHEREAS City Council at its meeting on June 26, 2019, considered Motion 16/12 from Councillor Rawlson King regarding measures to curb gun violence, and approved Motion 16/13 to refer the matter to the Police Services Board for consideration; and, 
WHEREAS the Board believes the issues raised in the motion are important to public safety and should be part of the ongoing discussions on gun violence in our community; and,
WHEREAS the Board would like to gain a better understanding of current best practices across the country as well as ongoing research on gun violence and possible deterrents;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief of Police be directed to bring forward a report by Q1 of 2020 to the Board’s Policy and Governance Committee that contains an environmental scan and research and recommendations on measures to curb gun violence, as outlined in the King/Fleury motion referred by City Council, and that the police service confer with CPO in the development of this report; and that the Chair draft a letter to the Canadian Association of Police Governance to solicit information on best practices from other police services boards across the country.

That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the attendance of A. Blaustein, D. Deans, D. Nirman, and K. Ferraro at the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB) Labour Seminar being held in Mississauga, on October 10 – 11, 2019.

21 CONCOURSE GATE – LEASE RENEWAL

That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the execution of a Lease Renewal with Clarke Properties Ltd. For approximately 4,691 sq. ft. of space located at 21 Concourse Gate for a period of 5 years commencing January 1, 2020.

APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL CONSTABLES: CARLETON UNIVERSITY

That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the appointments of Carleton University employees, Justin MESSIER and Jeremy WRIGHT, as Special Constables pursuant to Section 53 of the Police Services Act, in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the attached Approval of Appointment Form.
