Chair Taylor asked for a few minutes of silence to remember those lost and affected by the terrible accident one year ago this day of the OC Transpo bus and train.

 

This being the last Committee meeting of this term of Council Chair Taylor thanked staff and Committee members.  Councillors Chiarelli and Qadri thanked the Chair for a job well done.

REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Community and Protective Services Committee recommend Council approve the proposal to name a new park at 105 Southam Way “Panda Park”.

OTTAWA FIRE SERVICES 2013 ANNUAL REPORT

REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Community and Protective Service Committee receive this report for information.

 

Ottawa Fire Services Chief John deHooge and Deputy Chief Kim Ayotte gave a PowerPoint presentation which is held on file by the City Clerk’s office.

Chair Taylor thanked the Chiefs for their presentation and their hard work in achieving Commission of Fire Accreditation International recognition and accreditation. 

The Committee members followed up with various questions on false alarms and fines for such infractions, information sharing within various first responders and departments and tiered response.

After a brief discussion period, the Committee RECEIVED the item for information.

SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT BRANCH 2013 ANNUAL REPORT

REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Community and Protective Services Committee receive this report for information.

 

Pierre Poirier, Chief, Security and Emergency Management gave a PowerPoint presentation which is held on file with the City Clerk’s office. 

Following the presentation Committee members had various questions on the vulnerability table, the possibility of the Canada East Pipeline coming through Ottawa and emergency preparedness.  

The report recommendations were then put to Committee and RECEIVED as presented.

 

At the conclusion of the meeting Chair Taylor thanked retiring Councillor D. Holmes on all her hard work over the years both on this Committee and for the City.
